Mariia Aksan, age 94 of Columbia, IL, passed away Thursday, April 30, 2026, at her home in Columbia, IL.

She was born on Thursday, April 28, 1932, in Pykivzy, Ukraine, the daughter of Vazlar and Ruzha Liliovskiy.

She was a member of St. Mary’s Assumption Ukrainian Catholic Church in St. Louis, MO.

Mariia’s life was a testament to the beauty of simple, soulful things. She loved gardening and especially enjoyed lilacs. Mariia found peaceful moments of prayer, a practice that anchored her spirit. A gifted cook who shared her love through every meal, she cultivated a world rooted in faith, flavor, and grace.

Mariia is survived by her daughter, Lyudmila (Rocky) Meyers-Aksan and grandson, Nicholas Meyers.

She was preceded in death her husband, Anton Aksan and parents, Vazlar and Ruzha Liliovskiy.

Arrangements are being handled by Spengel-Boulanger Funeral Home in Highland, IL.

Visitation will be held from 9:00 AM to 11:00 AM on Tuesday, May 5, 2026, at Spengel-Boulanger Funeral Home in Highland, IL.

Funeral Service will be at 11:00 AM on Tuesday, May 5, 2026, at Spengel-Boulanger Funeral Home in Highland, IL, with Fr. James Deshotels and Deacon Eugene Logush, St. Mary’s Assumption Ukrainian Catholic Church, officiating.

Interment will be at Keystone Cemetery in Saint Jacob, IL.
