Kenneth V. “Stick” Voss, age 80, of Breese, passed away on Friday, October 23, 2026, at Memorial Hospital in Belleville. He was born on December 23, 1945, in Breese, the son of the late Victor and Alvina (nee Ratermann) Voss.

On August 10, 1974, he married Sheila F. Guttersohn, at St. Dominic Catholic Church, and she survives in Breese. He is also survived by his children, Jason Voss of Trenton, Jeff (Leisa) Voss of Edwardsville and Valerie (Jeremy) Bloom of Venedy; grandchildren, Aaron, Luke and Jacob Voss and Aubrey Bloom; siblings, Roger Voss of Breese, Marie (Wayne) Estes of Hampton Cove, AL, Sharon (Eddy) Barnett of Collinsville and Kevin (Terri) Voss of Decatur; brother-in-law, Steven “Smokey” Guttersohn and numerous nieces and nephews.

Kenneth was preceded in death by his parents; brother, Alan Voss in infancy; sisters-in-law, Phyllis Voss and Deborah Ripperda and parents-in-law Earl and Ann (nee Vandeloo) Guttersohn.

Ken was a 1963 graduate of Mater Dei High School. Following his graduation, he answered the call to serve his country, first on active duty in the United States Army and later continuing his service in the Army Reserves. Ken went on to build a remarkable 36-year career as a Locomotive Engineer at Granite City Steel, where his hard work and reliability were constants until his retirement.

Deeply rooted in his faith and his community, Ken was a faithful member of St. Dominic Catholic Church. He was also an active and proud member of the Breese American Legion Post 252 and the Breese Historical Society, dedicated to honoring fellow veterans and preserving local history.

Outside of work and service, Ken was an avid St. Louis Cardinals fan and could often be found listening to his favorite band, The Rolling Stones. He had a well-known, undeniable love for sweets. Above all else, Ken’s greatest joy in life was his family. He cherished every moment spent together, and nothing brought a bigger smile to his face than being with his beloved grandkids.
