Joseph Thomas Overby, Sr., age 82 of Pocahontas, IL, died Tuesday, December 9, 2025, at his home in Pocahontas, IL.

He was born on Sunday, September 5, 1943, in East Saint Louis, IL, the son of Joseph and Mary (nee Harmon) Overby.

On Saturday, May 23, 1964, he married Judith L. Overby (nee Roberson) in East St. Louis, IL, who passed away recently on January 15, 2026.

Joseph was born in East St. Louis, Illinois, and grew up in Alorton, Illinois. He attended East St. Louis High School. Joseph worked as an airplane refueler for Lambert Airport for more than 35 years and retired from there. In his retirement, he enjoyed camping, fishing, boating, gambling, hunting and shooting. Joseph took pride in cutting his grass. Found memories were made with his family on the vacations to Florida.

Survivors include several grandchildren and step great grandchildren; sisters-in-law Delores Tyson and Brenda (John) Andruska; and several nieces and nephews. At the time of Joseph's passing, his wife Judith survived, but recently passed away this month.

He was preceded in death by two sons, Joseph Thomas Overby, Jr. (died 5/19/1983) and Jeffrey Lee Overby, died 11/19/2010; and his parents, Joseph Thomas Overby and Mary Overby, nee Harmon

Arrangements are being handled by Spengel-Boulanger Funeral Home in Highland, IL.

Visitation will be held from 10:00 AM to 12:00 PM on Friday, January 23, 2026, at Spengel-Boulanger Funeral Home in Highland, IL.

Funeral Service will be at 12:00 PM on Friday, January 23, 2026, at Spengel-Boulanger Funeral Home in Highland, IL.

Interment will be at Highland City Cemetery in Highland, IL.
