Derek J. “DJ” Stein, 24, of Breese, died Saturday, December 17, 2011 at Barnes-Jewish Hospital in St. Louis. 

DJ was born November 1, 1987 in Centerville, IL to Joseph and Tina (Ahrens) Stein; his father preceded him in death and his mother and step-father Timothy Murphy survive in Breese. 

Also surviving are his brothers, Stephen (friend Holly) Stein of Dupo, Joey Stein of Dupo, and Kyle (friend Shelby) Stein of Breese; nieces, Nyiah Stein and Lylah Stein; aunts and uncles, Rhonda (John) Foutch of Belleville, Nicky Louvier of Breese, Gregory (friend Tanya) Stein of Dupo, Bradley (Linda) Stein of Dupo, and Sheila Stein of Dupo; cousins, John Foutch, Elizabeth Foutch, Jesse Pinales, Chad Stein and his son, London, Danielle Stein and her son, Ashton, and Tiffany Stein and her son, Dakota; a great-aunt, Randy Steiger of Dupo; and second cousins, Frankie (Lisa) Marks of Dupo and Seth Creasy of Cahokia. 

In addition to his father, he was also preceded in death by his maternal grandparents, Ronald and Leslie Ahrens and his paternal grandparents, August and Doris Stein. 

DJ was a 2006 graduate of Central High School in Breese and was a former employee of Rose Acres Farms in Germantown. 

Funeral Services will be Thursday, December 22, 2011 at 6:00 PM at the Moss Funeral Home in Breese with Deacon Bob Lippert officiating.  

Visitation will be Thursday, December 22, 2011 from 3:00-6:00 PM at the Moss Funeral Home in Breese. 

Memorials can be made to the family and will be received at the funeral home.
