David Scott “Dave” Kolmer, 51 of Breese, died Friday, May 6, 2011 in his home. 

He was born on February 26, 1960 in Red Bud, IL, the beloved son of Janice “Jan” (nee Logan) and Ch.Lt.Col. Allen Kolmer, USAF Ret., of New Baden.   

Dave was the amazing husband of Laurie (nee Hoock) Kolmer for 20 years and the proud father of Chad and Hannah Kolmer.  His Life was centered around his family.  He was a wonderful brother to Steve (Nancy) Kolmer and Jim Kolmer all of New Baden and wonderful brother-in-law to Sherry (Bob) Habermehl of St. Louis; nephew of Robert (Joan) Logan of Iowa, Michael (Cheryl) Logan of Swansea, Richard Ash of Michigan, Judith (William) Crispin of Quincy, and Sheryl (Donald) Davis of Madisonville, KY.; a nephew, Nicholas Marks; numerous cousins, special neighbors and friends; and his adored dog, Sophie. 

He spent most of his childhood living at various military bases worldwide, graduating high school in Bremerhaven, Germany.  After graduating from Eastern University, he was a software consultant with Union Pacific/Overnight Transportation currently known as UPS Freight where he was a dedicated employee for 27 years. 

His love of basketball led him down the path of coaching several different teams over the years.  Not only was he a role model for his own children but young people throughout the county.  Dave touched the lives of many children and parents and coached a wide variety of sports teams.  He was the 5^th and 6^th grade girl’s basketball coach at All Saints Academy in Breese.  In the past  Dave coached Wesclin High School boys and girls soccer, and was the basketball Commissioner of New Baden Athletic Booster Club.  Dave started the youth Lady Hoopsters basketball program in New Baden. 

He was preceded in death by his maternal grandparents, Edwin and Ruth (Kuhn) Logan; paternal grandparents, Otto Kolmer and Henrietta (nee Meyer) and Herbert Bauer; his father-in-law and mother-in-law, Clem and Frances (nee Weible) Hoock; and aunts Karen Ash and Ruth Krueger. 

Funeral Services will be Tuesday, May 10, 2011 at 10:30 AM at St. Dominic Church in Breese with Rev. Mike Garrison officiating.  Interment will follow in St. John Cemetery, Breese, 

Visitation will be Monday, May 9, 2011 from 4:00-8:00 PM and again on Tuesday, May 10, 2011 from 9:00 to 10:15 AM at the Moss Funeral Home in Breese. 

Memorials can be made to the Pay It Forward Dave Kolmer Memorial Fund and will be received at the funeral home.
