Bernard J. Husmann, 92 of Breese,
died Friday, November 12, 2010 at Carlyle Healthcare Center.
Mr. Husmann was born December 12,
1917 in Breese to Nicholas and Catherine (Moss) Husmann; they
preceded him in death.
Also preceded in death by sisters,
Elsie Oakley, Marcella Poelker, and Loretta Dreher; a sister-in-law,
Marge Werner; and brothers-in-law, Oscar Oakley, Floyd Clark, and
Ambrose Singley.
He married Leora “Trudy” Werner on
February 22, 1944 at the St. Louis Cathedral; she survives in
Breese.
Also surviving is a daughter,
Patricia Schurwanz of Breese; 4 grandsons, Sylvan (Devrah Otten)
Schurwanz, Hilary Schurwanz, Benedict (Rebecca) Schurwanz, and
Matthew Schurwanz; a great-grandson, Rowan Schurwanz; brothers,
Alfred (Fay) Husmann of Breese and Raymond (Rose) Husmann of Breese;
and brothers-in-law and sisters-in-law, Bernard “Ben” Poelker of
Belleville, Frank Dreher of Wheaton, Gus Werner of St. Petersburg
Beach, FL, Lucille Clark of Lenoir, NC, and Les (Jeanne) Werner of
Chattanooga, TN.
He was a member of St. Dominic
Catholic Church in Breese, Breese American Legion Post 252, Breese
Knights of Columbus Council 2869, and a veteran of the United States
Navy.
Bernie retired from Schuette Bros.
Stores, Inc. after 45 years as the office manager and bookkeeper.
After retirement a motor home was purchased and time was spent
traveling, ending up finding a likely spot in the Rio Grande Valley,
TX where he and Trudy lived about four months during the winter. He
was an avid golfer and spent as much time as possible on the links.
Funeral Mass of Christian Burial
will be Monday, November 15, 2010 at 11:00 AM
at St. Dominic Catholic Church in Breese with Fr. Ben Stern
officiating. Interment will follow in St. Dominic/St. Augustine
Cemetery, Breese.
Visitation will be Sunday, November
14, 2010 from 5:00-8:00 PM and again on Monday, November 15, 2010
from 9:00-10:45 AM at the Moss Funeral Home in Breese.
The Breese American Legion will hold
services at 7:00 PM and the Breese Knights of Columbus will pray the
Rosary at 7:30 PM all Sunday evening at the funeral home.
Memorials can be made to St. Dominic
Church and will be received at the funeral home. |
