Agnes M. Holtmann, nee Varel, 91, of Germantown, died Wednesday, August 31, 2011 at St. Joseph Hospital in Breese. 

She was born June 25, 1920 in Bartelso to Louis and Mary (Pingsterhaus) Varel; they preceded her in death. 

She married Joseph Holtmann on October 6, 1943 at St. Cecilia Church, Bartelso. He preceded her in death July 8, 2001

Also preceded in death by a brother, Louis Varel Jr.; a son-in-law, Wynn Nulsen; brothers-in-law, Joseph Huelsmann, Alfred “Fritz” Korte, Laverne Laux; and sisters-in-law, Marcella Varel and Irlene Varel. 

Surviving are her children, Kathy (Henry) Schmeink of Carlyle, JoAnn (Herbert) Loepker of Troy, Linda Nulsen of Aviston, Roger Holtmann of Germantown, Janet (Ron) Rapp of Highland, Dolores (Mike) Trame of Highland, Sharon Schnieder of Belleville, Mary (Kelly) Gustin of New Baden, and Tina Holtmann of Germantown; 23 grandchildren and 12 great grandchildren; brothers, Leo Varel and Edwin “Eppie” Varel both of Carlyle; sisters, Clare Huelsmann of Bartelso, Lucille Korte of St. Rose, Martha (Walter) Duing of Germantown, and Laura Laux of Breese.

Agnes was homemaker; she enjoyed her time with family, gardening and flowers, quilting, bingo and playing euchre and pinochle 

She was a member of St. Boniface Catholic Church and Altar Sodality, Clinton County Farm Bureau, and former treasurer for St. Jude’s School. 

Funeral mass of Christian Burial will be Saturday, September 3, 2011 at 10:00 am at St. Boniface Church in Germantown with Fr. James Buerster and Deacon Rich Bagby officiating. Interment St. Boniface Cemetery. 

Visitation will be Friday, September 2 from 4:00 to 8:00 PM and Saturday, September 3 from 8:00 to 9:30 am at Moss Funeral Home in Germantown.

Memorials can be made to Masses or Community Link and will be received at the funeral home.
