Marie R. Grapperhaus, nee Rakers, 90 of Trenton, died Friday, September 23, 2011 at St. Joseph Hospital in Breese. 

Mrs. Grapperhaus was born December 8, 1920 in Aviston, IL to Herman and Mary (Koerkenmeier) Rakers; they preceded him in death. 

She married Alvin Grapperhaus on May 3, 1939 at St. Augustine Church in Breese; he preceded her in death on March 22, 1988. 

Also preceded in death by a son, James Grapperhaus; brothers, Paul, Edmund, Charles, Raymond, and Edwin Rakers; sisters, Irene Rakers and Marcella Seifert.  

Surviving are her children, Jerry (Marjorie) Grapperhaus of Mt. Vernon and Mary Jo (Ron) Varel of Trenton; 4 Grandchildren, Kim (Bob) Rensing, Edward (Janna) Grapperhaus, Jennifer (Matthew) Frericks, and Lisa (John) Luebker; 8 Great-Grandchildren; brothers, Jerome (Mildred) Rakers of Carlyle and Andrew Rakers of Beckemeyer; sisters,  Rita Deiters of Breese, Alvera Mannhard of Trenton, and Ceil Markus of Aviston; and sisters-in-law Johanna Rakers of Trenton, Joyce (Leonard) Steinmann of St. Rose, Bea Grapperhaus of Breese.. 

Marie was a homemaker, dairy farmer’s wife  and a cook at Brass Lantern restaurant in Highland.  She was a member of St. Mary’s Catholic Church and Altar Sodality and the Trenton Senior Citizens. 

Funeral Mass of Christian Burial will be Tuesday, September 27, 2011 at 12:00 PM at St. Mary’s Catholic Church in Trenton with Fr. Joseph Rascher officiating.  Interment will follow in St. Mary’s Cemetery, Trenton. 

Visitation will be Monday, September 26, 2011 from 4:00-8:00 PM and again on Tuesday, September 27, 2011 from 9:30-11:45 AM at the Moss Funeral Home in Trenton. 

Memorials can be made to the Breese Nursing Home Activity Department and will be received at the funeral home.
