Leonard John Fiedler, 83, of New Baden, died Thursday, March 3, 2011 at St. Joseph’s Hospital in Breese. 

Mr. Fiedler was born March 16, 1927 in New Memphis to Henry and Emma (Kehrer) Fiedler; they preceded him in death. 

He married Flora Rakers on June 2, 1948 at Holy Childhood Catholic Church in Mascoutah; she preceded him in death on January 14, 1984. 

Also preceded in death by brothers-in-law and sisters-in-law, Bernard Schomaker, Hank and Anne Rakers, Albin and Henrietta Rakers, Rich and Marcella Rakers, Eugenia and Ben Rensing, Oscar Rakers, Gerhart Rakers, and Hubert Kalmer. 

Surviving are his daughters, Karen Moss of Breese, Donna (Gary) Hitpas of New Baden, Vickie (William) Simpson and Jo Ellen (Greg) Kimmel all of Benton; 11 Grandchildren, Patrick (Nikki) Moss, Phillip (Kelly) Moss, Katrina Moss, Cassie (Dan) Varel, Corran (Chris) Huber, Callyn Hitpas, Damian (Melissa) Simpson, Christopher (Sarah) Simpson, Dr. Ashley (Ronnie Chanvitayapongs) Kimmel, Tyler Kimmel, and Kayla Kimmel;16 Great-Grandchildren, Amaree, Ali, Kate, and Sara Moss, Alden, Owen, and Bennett Moss, Delaney, Reese, and Grady Varel, Charles, Jack, and Henry Huber, Adelyn Simpson, and Grayson and Layton Chanvitayapongs; a brother, Maurice (Joan) Fiedler of Chicago; a sister, Geraldine Schomaker of St. Louis; and brothers-in-law and sisters-in-law, Henrietta Kalmer, Francis (Mary Jo) Rakers, and Cletus (Margie) Rakers all of New Baden. 

Leonard retired as a supervisor from Granite City Steel, was the former owner/operator of the Trenton House Restuarant, he formerly managed New Baden Bowl, and he served as a Village Trustee for 20 Years. 

He was a member of St. George Catholic Church, New Baden American Legion Post 321, United Steelworkers Union, and he served as the secretary of the Greater Carlyle Bowling Association where he was also a member of the Hall of Fame. 

Funeral Mass of Christian Burial will be Monday, March 7, 2011 at 11:00 AM at St, George Catholic Church in New Baden with Fr. Gene Neff officiating.  Interment will follow in Resurrection Cemetery in New Baden with full military honors. 

Visitation will be Sunday, March 6, 2011 from 4:00-8:00 PM and again on Monday, March 7, 2011 from 9:00-10:30 AM at the Moss Funeral Home in Trenton.

The New Baden American Legion will hold services as 7:00 PM Sunday evening at the funeral home.
