Vince Chawgo, 66, of Breese died Friday, April 15, 2011 at St.
Elizabeth’s Hospital in Belleville. He was born June 30, 1944 and
adopted as an infant by Bill and Margaret (Bernbrock) Chawgo of
Aurora. He married Kay Jarvis on June 29, 1968 at St. Mary Catholic
Church in Aurora and she survives.
He is also survived by
his daughter Rebecca of Lynnwood, WA, his son Jeremy of Breese, an
uncle Reverend John Bernbrock of Milwaukee WI, his mother-in-law
Lois Jarvis of Yorkville, sisters and brothers-in-law Linda (Dave)
Dugan of Leland, Sandy (Daryl) Jones of Steward, nieces, nephews,
cousins, and their children.
He was preceded in death
by his parents, a sister Mary Catherine Chawgo, his father-in-law
Bill Jarvis, aunts and uncles Louie (Emily) Chawgo, Bill (Madge)
Bernbrock, and Mary ( Carl) Weber.
Vince was a graduate of
Christian Brothers University in Memphis, TN and Southern Illinois
University at Edwardsville. He taught social studies and coached at
Marmion Military Academy in Aurora, Assumption High School in East
St. Louis, and Central Community High School in Breese. He was a
guidance counselor at Triad High School in St. Jacob and finished
his career in education as Director of Student Services at Triad.
He served as Zoning Administrator of the City of Breese.
He was a seasonal ranger
at Carlyle Lake, and was honored for heroism in 1991for saving two
drowning victims. Vince received a citation for Extraordinary
Service from the Clinton County Sheriff’s department and the United
States Army Corps of Engineers Commander’s Award. He was a member,
past president, and celebrated Tail Twister of the Breese Lions Club
and a recipient of the Lions Club International Melvin Jones Award
for Humanitarian Services.
Vince was an avid
golfer who would drop everything to fill in at a tournament or
travel to an out-of-town course. The highlight of his golfing
career was marshalling at the practice course during the 2008 BMW
Championship at Bellerive Country Club.
A Mass of Christian
Burial will be celebrated at 10:00am Monday April 18, 2011 at St.
Dominic Catholic Church in Breese with Father Patrick Peter and
Father George Mauck officiating. Interment will be in St.
Dominic/St. Augustine Cemetery in Breese.
Friends may call from
3:00 to 6:00pm on Sunday April 17 at Moss Funeral Home in Breese.
Breese Lions Club will hold
services 5:00 PM on Sunday at the funeral home.
In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to the Breese Lions
Scholarship Fund and will be received at the funeral home. |
