Marie R. Brefeld, nee Mersinger, 96 of Trenton, died Tuesday, November 1, 2011 at Aviston Countryside Manor. 

Mrs. Brefeld was born November 26, 1914 in Lebanon to Ferdinand and Anna (Rithman) Mersinger; they preceded her in death. 

She married Paul A. Brefeld on February 6, 1940 at St. Joseph’s Catholic Church in Lebanon; he preceded her in death on January 28, 1992. 

Also preceded in death by sisters, Agnes Kuhn and Christine Lorenz; brothers, Vincent Mersinger and Frederick Mersinger; and brothers-in-law and sisters-in-law, Art Kuhn, Earl Lorenz, Agnes Mersinger, Sadie Mersinger, Bernard “Bert” Bertrand, Duane Pier, Bernard and Dolly Brefeld, Gervase and Marge Brefeld, Loretta Cope-Strake, Art Cope, Frank Strake, Bernice and Herb Kurz, Aurelia and Harlan Glanzner, and Geraldine Brefeld. 

Surviving are her children, Carol (William) Rawlsky of Denver, CO and Ken (Teresa) Brefeld of Trenton; 3 grandchildren, Timothy Rawlsky, Lindsay Brefeld, and Brad Brefeld; sisters, Rose Bertrand of Belleville and Jean Pier of Lebanon; and numerous nieces and nephews. 

Marie was a homemaker and a member of St. Mary’s Catholic Church and Altar Sodality in Trenton.  She enjoyed playing cards, music, and following the St. Louis Cardinals. 

Funeral Mass of Christian Burial will be Saturday, November 5, 2011 at 9:00 AM at St. Mary’s Catholic Church in Trenton with Fr. Joseph Rascher officiating.  Interment will follow in St. Mary’s Cemetery, Trenton      

Visitation will be Friday, November 4, 2011 from 5:00-7:00 PM and again on Saturday, November 5, 2011 from 8:00-8:45 AM at the Moss Funeral Home in Trenton. 

Memorials can be made to St. Mary’s Catholic Church or Hospice of Sothern Illinois and will be received at the funeral home.
